Is a Former Sparks Councilmember Promoting His Business Through the Nevada Veterans Memorial?
Former Sparks City Councilmember Kristopher Dahir on his media campaign as far back as February 2025.
Former Sparks City Councilmember Kristopher Dahir has long positioned the Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza as one of his signature causes, despite not being a veteran himself. While his advocacy for veterans deserves recognition, recent media appearances have raised questions about his motivations and commitment.
Throughout 2024, Dahir prominently featured the memorial in his public appearances, a strategy that some observers viewed as politically motivated rather than genuinely service-oriented, remembering his opponent in the race is a veteran. Following his unsuccessful reelection bid, Dahir has seemingly pivoted to presenting himself as a personal counselor - public speaker - corporate trainer, embarking on what appears to be a calculated media campaign, using the Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza yet again.
In early December 2024, an announcement generated significant initial excitement: an anonymous donor had offered $500,000 toward reducing the memorial's debt, contingent upon the nonprofit raising an additional $386,000. This news appeared briefly on social media but was followed by complete silence—no updates, no fundraising initiatives, no community outreach, no Dahir.
Wondering why the Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza dropped this debt reduction campaign in December 2024.
The question remains: Where has Dahir been since that December announcement? Why the prolonged silence on fundraising efforts? Did everyone simply decide to "take the winter off" only to resume activities in February 2025? Or was Dahir '‘Finding his South'‘ and creating his next move, launching his new endeavor - Public Speaking Engagements are $2,500, Personal Coaching $150 per hour, Corporate Training $1,500 for 1/2 day.
The memorial itself remains a worthy cause—not for Dahir's benefit, but to honor the legacy of the late Sparks Mayor Ron Smith, a Vietnam veteran who dreamed of creating this plaza. Mayor Smith, remembered fondly as "one heck of a nice guy," is still deeply missed in the Sparks community.
The memorial deserves support from the community, but perhaps with more transparency and less personal promotion from a former councilmember.
