A Picon Primary Poem …
'Twas the last day of voting in Nevada's 2026 Primary Election,
And all the creatures were stirring in search of reflection.
Plotting and pointing, while tempers ran hot,
Unearthing old rumors and whatever they forgot.
Hiding the truth and obscuring the facts,
Hoping the noise would outshine their own tracks.
Pretending they'd never sought control of the Picon Press domain,
Never been 86'd from Massage Envy, or joined unlikely campaigns.
Working with an enemy's enemy to allege Hatch Act disgrace,
While hoping voters would never connect the names or the place.
Heck, some candidates painted ethics violations as minor mishaps,
And treated marital vows like inconvenient scraps.
But we must admit, for all the bluster and spin,
There's nothing like an election to make politicians pitch in.
Whether flipping or flopping to follow the crowd,
Kissing babies and making promises loud,
Spending time with second wives whose courtships raised a few brows,
While praising the sanctity of family values somehow.
Patching potholes, returning calls, and showing up on cue,
Suddenly doing the things public servants ought to do.
Charging crimes years too late when the headlines demand,
While whistleblowers sit waiting with receipts in hand.
Questions linger on Loving, on stories untold,
On what the State may have heard and what truths may have been sold.
For one brief shining season, before the ballots are cast,
They remember the people and work hard at last.
Then once the votes are counted and Election Day has passed,
The promises grow quieter, and normal returns at last.
While we here at Picon claim no credit for another man's fall,
We simply report the spectacle and publish it all.
Awaiting resignations that may yet come due,
And pleadings withdrawn when the record shines through.
For justice moves slowly, but still finds its way,
Though delayed by the powerful, it seldom will stay.
So as Nevada awakens to election day dawn,
The voters will decide which masks remain on.
Polls are open today only from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
