If You Can Stand the Heat … Attend a Fire Board Meeting

Commissioner and Elect-Me-Again-Candidate Mariluz Garcia calling Commissioner Mike Clark out for breaking quorum at an earlier meeting, so now there must be rules. We ponder if Garcia is aware of the U.S. Constitution, maybe she missed that in PhD school.

Commissioner Mariluz Garcia wants “rules of procedure” for the Washoe County Board of Fire Commissioners. Sounds harmless enough, right? Just a little housekeeping on decorum and best practices. But anyone watching closely saw what this really was: not about efficiency, not about process — but about publicly taking Commissioner Mike Clark to the woodshed.

So much for Garcia’s image as the shy, soft-spoken maiden on the dais. The moment she had the chance, she ditched the doe eyes and went full-on verbal swordfighter, attempting to give Clark an old-fashioned ass chewing in front of the cameras.

Her line? It’s all about best practices and “rules of engagement.” The subtext? Take that, Mike Clark. Deliberately breaking quorum was not okay with Garcia, and she wanted to make sure everyone knew who was boss.

But is this really about Clark’s quorum departure? Or is Garcia trying to deflect from her own missteps — like the time she didn’t support Clark’s discretionary fund donation to the Reno Toy Run, which spiraled into that now-infamous “Nazi” controversy. That blunder lit such a fire under Northern Nevada Confederation of Clubs Troy Regas that he’s already announced he’ll run against Garcia in 2026.

If you take a gander at Garcia’s Nevada Secretary of State Contribution and Expense reports back in 2022 it is a who’s who of contributors that gave money to defeat the ‘Beadles Candidate’ Denise Myer in the general election. Now there is no way to link Regas to Beadles and the big question will be how in the heck will Garcia fundraise if not to beat Beadles. We are interested to watch.

Denise Myer’s Contribution and Expense report from 2022 showing one of her contributions from Robert Beadles, the reason then candidate, now Commissioner Mariluz Garcia was able to raise so many campaign contributions in 2022.
