Newsmakers of the Year: Transparency Still Matters

We made the decision today to pull our scheduled story and instead highlight This Is Reno’s Newsmakers of the Year for 2025—a list that includes Washoe County Commissioner Mike Clark.

That choice wasn’t difficult.

Since being elected, Clark has consistently pushed for greater transparency from Washoe County government, often asking questions others won’t and pressing for answers that don’t always come easily. Transparency isn’t flashy, and it doesn’t always win friends inside bureaucracies, but it does matter—to taxpayers, to voters, and to the health of local government.

We appreciate seeing another media outlet recognize that work.

In a time when openness can feel optional and accountability inconvenient, acknowledging officials who continue to push for both is worth pausing for. Congratulations to Commissioner Clark on the recognition—and to This Is Reno for shining a light where it belongs.
