Reader Round-Up: The Things That Land in Our Inbox

We receive 100’s of bits and pieces of information - these are a few we got this week.

Readers send us plenty. Not all of it rises to the level of a full story, but some of it certainly deserves an honorable mention.

We understand that while Karma Box Executive Director Grant Denton has been sashaying around Washington, D.C. speaking at a drug summit, a few quiet edits were happening back home. Rumor has it SAFE Embrace requested their logo be removed from his website, we can’t find the page to confirm or deny, and Denton also scrubbed references to being the co-founder of an alpaca business. Did the Alpaca's complain?

Then there’s the Bad Bunny dust-up involving Councilmember Dian VanderWell sponsoring a viewing event. Folks — it’s a local watch party, not the Super Bowl halftime show. If you don’t want to watch, don’t go. Simple. Most of the flyers filling our inbox seem to be coming from Republicans, which is curious considering VanderWell herself ran as a Republican District 5 commission candidate back in 2014. One has to wonder what exactly a Republican women’s club did to make her go nonpartisan.

Meanwhile, if you were thrilled to see the barn come down at Rancharrah, you may want to keep an eye on — and perhaps donate to — Jon Killoran, who appears to be collecting support from many of the same developers his constituents have previously battled. Developers seem fond of him. Cannabis lounge hopefuls too.

And finally, what is it with Republican women’s clubs appearing to pick candidates before filing deadlines even pass? RWR recently ran a lengthy article by Trista Gomez, who moved into Washoe County District 3 to challenge Mariluz Garcia — a race that will be uphill at best. Yet they also have Troy Regas, who announced back in 2024. Why elevate one Republican over another? The same question circles back to Commissioner Clara Andriola’s WRW club backing Jon Killoran.

Politics may be local, but the intrigue never takes a day off.
