While some local media was busy chasing cones at Keystone, a summer storm on Sunday, July 27 dumped hail, lightning, and a flood into downtown Reno—oh, and possibly swept away parts of the Arlington Bridge construction site. But you wouldn’t know that from your local media or the City of Reno, however RTC - Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County did step up with a post on Facebook yesterday.
Over the weekend, Reno was treated to a good old-fashioned summer storm—hail, lightning, flash flooding—and, it seems, a healthy dose of selective storytelling.

Recent weeks have seen two separate incidents involving public figures and law enforcement reports in Washoe County and Reno, highlighting questions about media coverage and public discourse.
Last weekend, reports emerged about a Reno City Council member involved in an incident with a 73-year-old resident at a local wine bar, resulting in a police report. The coverage of this incident sparked significant online debate, particularly on social media where numerous local figures weighed in.
Washoe County Selectively Recognizes Media Outlets
Commissioner Mike Clark forwarded us a Daily Media Report from January 30, 2025, regarding the restoration of hot meals to local seniors, and we found something concerning. While the news itself was positive - seniors finally receiving warm meals after a 14-day interruption due to unexplained "permitting issues" with the temporary kitchen - we noticed a glaring omission.
Despite Picon's extensive coverage of this situation, including detailed reporting on seniors receiving cold sandwiches and later cold salads, our outlet was conspicuously absent from the Daily Media Report. This exclusion comes despite our constant coverage compared to mentioned outlets like RGJ, Channel 8, Channel 4, 2 News, and Fox 11.
