The Case of Travis Smith and the Death of Cyclist Joshua Neely

Travis Smith will be arraigned in the Second Judicial Distrcit Court - Department 6 on Thursday, November 13th - we hope the press attends and asks his legal team some questions so they can say, “no comment.”

On May 28, 2025, a quiet stretch of Washoe Valley road became the scene of a tragedy. Cyclist Joshua Neely was struck and killed — and the driver responsible, Travis Smith, didn’t stop.

While the family of Joshua Neely grieves, Smith’s legal team appears busy shielding assets. That tells a story of its own — one of financial insulation rather than remorse.

Local news outlet Our Town Reno brought renewed attention to the case, sparking outrage online. Their Facebook post drew comments from residents demanding that the press — all of it — dig deeper and keep this tragedy in the public eye. The public’s frustration is palpable: if this were anyone other than a well-connected defendant with resources, would the pace and tone of justice look different?

Now, as the case transitions from Justice Court to District Court, transparency is key. Neely’s life was more than a case file; he was part of this community. And the community deserves to know why a man who allegedly fled a fatal crash is still free to strategize asset protection rather than face the full consequences of his actions.

Because justice delayed — or softened by privilege — isn’t justice at all.
