Candidates for Washoe County Commission District 3. Troy Regas declared in 2024 and lives in District 3. Trista Gomez ran for District 4 Commission in 2024 and moved to Distrcit 3 to run for the commission seat announced yesterday.
If leadership is about vision, strategy, and cohesion — then Washoe County Republicans are proving once again that they’ve got none of the above. Their so-called leader, Bruce Parks, seems more like a stagehand than a director: taking cues, following scripts, and letting others ghostwrite the footnotes, easier to point a finger after failure.
Maybe take the old website down before putting the new website up. We couldn’t open the new website for the District 3.
And now, the latest act in this tragicomedy: Trista Gomez.
In 2024, Gomez parachuted late into District 4 to challenge Clara Andriola. Spoiler: it didn’t end well.
Fast-forward to today, and she’s suddenly in District 3. Why? Because she moved there. You can almost hear the GPS recalculating her political ambition.
And instead of coordinating with Troy Regas — the Republican who actually planted his flag early in District 3, back in the summer of 2024, and didn’t need a change-of-address form to do it — she’s setting up camp to split the base.
Meanwhile, Democrats are popping champagne. With Gomez linked to Beadles (cue the donor panic), Mariluz Garcia’s fundraising machine is already revving up. And here’s the kicker: Republicans are basically rolling out a red carpet for Garcia’s reelection parade.
Let’s review:

Trista Gomez: Running on the bold platform of “Which district is available this year?”
Troy Regas: The independent-minded Republican who could actually take Garcia on… if only his own party didn’t sabotage itself.
This isn’t strategy. It’s slapstick. And unless something changes fast, 2026 is shaping up to look a whole lot like 2024: Republicans arguing over who gets the participation trophy, while Garcia sails back into office.
