Better Call Pierre: Eddie vs. Mike Round Two

The hearing in Washoe County Justice Court started at 8:30AM.

Today’s round in the courtroom between Eddie Lorton and Mike Leonard before Judge Pierre Hascheff raises a question plenty of Reno residents are probably asking:

Is Justice Court really where campaign feuds and “Breaking Bad” memes belong?

According to reporting from KUNR, the dispute centers around a Walter White meme Leonard allegedly sent to Lorton, with the quote “I am not in danger. I am the danger.” Lorton testified he viewed it as threatening, while Leonard said it was never intended as a threat.

Judge Hascheff himself appeared to narrow the issue substantially during earlier proceedings, reportedly refusing broader political testimony and focusing specifically on whether the meme constituted an actual threat.

But politically, the optics are hard to ignore.

Reno voters may reasonably wonder: if someone wants to run a city, how much court time should be spent litigating political drama, personal fallouts, and internet memes? Municipal courts already juggle serious public issues — from traffic offenses to domestic disputes to quality-of-life crimes. Critics could argue that political personalities turning campaign grudges into courtroom theater risks trivializing the system.

At the same time, supporters of Lorton largely Republican Women Club members who attended the first hearing, would likely argue that anyone who genuinely feels threatened has every right to seek court protection, regardless of whether the conflict began in politics or online.

Either way, what started as campaign infighting has now become public courtroom entertainment — complete with memes, former allies, and a “Breaking Bad” subplot that sounds more like cable TV than city governance. Thanks to Eddie for the entertainment, but sadly it is costing taxpayer dollars.
