Breakfast: Where the Real Hearing Happens

Picon thought the photo from Peg's Glorified Ham n Eggs with bananas was appropriate since Eddie Lorton due to his stand testimony is now clearly working with Conor McQuivey, Councilmember and Mayoral Candidate Devon Reese, and Alex Velto - not to mention Mayor Hillary Schieve. The partnerships isn’t just bananas but nuts.

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day—and after a court hearing, that might be especially true.

Because if you ask Picon, the real story always happens before… or after… the main event.

And yesterday proved it.

After the Lorton vs. Leonard hearing in Washoe County Justice Court, presided over by, we can’t believe it either, Judge Pierre Hascheff, both sides apparently needed to decompress.

So off they went to Peg's Glorified Ham n Eggs—because nothing says “post-court strategy” like bacon and eggs.

And what a restaurant it was. Lorton and his possie and Leonard with his ‘city hall fighters’ - you know the people Lorton used to support because they dared to ask questions of city hall, but now to Lorton they are the enemy.

Eddie Lorton showed up with his signature supporters. You know, the unpaid elderly who are happy to be inited to a cocktail party and get a free glass of wine and a few appetizes, Eddie is expanding their world. Still no online payment system for the campaign, by the way—cash or check only. The word on the street? That might have something to do with the campaign’s “tech capabilities” - or lack of.

Then there was Diane Hoffman—campaign operator, former California attorney, and head of a charity—clearly eager to be heard - chirping in Mayor Sheieve’s ear. Hoffman has taken the ‘good coat’ theme first ladies have adopted in inaugural day, sadly no one was particularly interested in listening. Her testimony was not needed per the judge.

Also in attendance: the head of the Republican Women of Reno, looking like it had already been a long morning, can you say haggard, tired, weary. Which raises a fair question—why back Lorton now when another Republican, Kathleen Taylor, is in the same race? Wouldn’t you wait for the primary?

Picon was sent hundreds of snap shots from the courtroom yesterday.

But patience doesn’t seem to be the theme here. Lorton needs whole lot of press so people might vote for him. This truly is the most press Lorton has ever received during a race and he is milking it for all it is worth.

Since Lorton’s first run this is the most press he has ever received and he only had to become part of Hillary and Devon’s world to get it - he’s helping to do their bidding, hence the restraining order.

Of course, Bruce Parks made an appearance. Our bet? He knew exactly where breakfast was happening. Let’s just say he may have been the only one there with a clear mission: bacon and eggs.

Meanwhile, back in the courtroom, things took an interesting turn.

What started as a dispute over a meme somehow evolved—over the course of an hour and a half—into claims that went far beyond social media. By the end, it wasn’t just about online content; it had escalated into allegations involving personal safety and Leonard hiding in bushes to shoot Lorton or a family member. We mean Lorton has become absurd.

That’s quite a leap.

Also notable: Lorton appeared hesitant to acknowledge knowing certain individuals, including Conor McQuivey—who, coincidentally, was sitting in the courtroom. One has to wonder if that was a planned appearance … and whether it was on personal time, you know Connor works on the taxpayer dollars at Washoe County. We hope he took the morning off, and we will be asking the county.

And perhaps the biggest question of all:

If this is the campaign strategy—courtrooms, headlines, and high-drama moments—what happens if the election doesn’t go Lorton’s way?

Because no one wants to be a five-time candidate without a win.

And aligning with familiar political figures like Mayor Hillary Schieve, Failed-Podcaster Conor McQuivey, Councilmember Devon Reese, and Reno Planning Commissioner and law partner of Devon Reese, Alex Velto with Lorton is basically going against his base. One has to ask is Lorton trying to present something new? Hanging with the City of Reno ‘cool kids’ is different for Lorton. That’s a balancing act even the most loyal supporters might struggle to explain. What’s next, Bruce Parks at a the Gay-Pride rally.

In the end, though, the only thing that truly made sense yesterday was breakfast.

At least Bruce Parks got that part right.

Picon ponders who left their server the bigger tip.
