Commissioner Clara: From Campaign Promises to Hallway Meltdowns
Commissioner Mike Clark put this on the record yesterday at the Washoe County Commission Meeting and there is video of this confrontation - Page 1.
Gosh, golly, gee wiz — who knew Commissioner Clara Andriola’s idea of “representing the people” meant doing exactly what the Washoe County Deputy District Attorney whispers in her ear? Forget listening to residents in Incline Village and Crystal Bay. Forget weighing community concerns. No, Clara’s job apparently boils down to one simple task: raise her hand when told.
But the real kicker came not in the chambers, but in the hallway — right outside the ladies’ room, no less. There, Commissioner Clara reportedly decided to give residents who actually had the guts to speak up at a county meeting a Mean Girls–style dressing down. Finger pointing, voice raised, shouting about “legal obligations.” Because nothing says “respectful elected official” like ambushing your own constituents in front of the restroom.
At this point, Clara might as well lean all the way into her role. Channel Amy Poehler’s Mrs. George from Mean Girls — maybe trade in the county blazer for an orange leisure suit and start introducing herself as “the cool commissioner.” Just don’t expect the riffraff (a.k.a. the taxpayers) to buy it.
And yes, residents have noticed. In fact, a couple of them took the time to send a letter to Interim County Manager Kate Thomas about Clara’s hallway antics. The question now: what will the county do about a commissioner who seems more interested in scolding citizens than serving them?
Remember folks, this is on video - the entire county building has security cameras.
Hey Clara, when your political brand shifts from “community voice” to “bathroom bully,” no amount of scripted legalese can cover up the stink.
