Judge Steinheimer FOUND!

Judge Connie Steinheimer has been on the Second Judicial District Court bench since 1992.

That’s right, Chief Judge Egan Walker — we weren’t going to stop asking questions.

On Saturday, we put Judge Connie Steinheimer on the side of a milk carton — not as a stunt, but to make a point: the public deserves to know what is happening inside our court.

Since ascending to the role of Chief Judge, Walker’s court is now down two judges. First came the very public controversy surrounding Bridget Robb, who faced serious allegations. Now Judge Steinheimer is off the bench as well.

That leaves taxpayers asking a pretty straightforward question: Who is handling Steinheimer’s docket? It couldn’t be Walker? These cases must again be randomlu assgned.

Judges are public officials. Courtrooms are public institutions. Silence is not a strategy.

We do appreciate that the court eventually clarified what was going on — transparency is always welcome. It’s just a shame it took public pressure to get there.

When confidence in institutions is built on trust, communication shouldn’t require a milk carton.
