The Toothless Tiger, Republican Center Committee

Reno City Councilmember Kathleen Taylor addressing the Republican Central Committee Monday night.

Well, there she was.

Councilmember Kathleen Taylor at the microphone Monday night at the Republican Central Committee meeting at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa.

We’re just trying to keep up.

Isn’t Bruce Parks the same party leader who demands absolute loyalty from Republicans? The one who’s made it clear that crossing the aisle is grounds for excommunication? Ask Ed Lawson, Clara Andriola, Kristopher Dahir, or Colleen Westlake how that worked out.

Support a non-Republican? Risk the boot.

But now we have what some might call a “part-time” Republican addressing the faithful — and Parks not only allows it, he supported her back in 2024.

So which is it? Total commitment… or situational flexibility?

And while we’re asking questions — where was Eddie Lorton?

Missing in action.

Is Parks quietly moving Taylor to the front of the line? Betting she can do what Lorton hasn’t managed after three attempts? Or is this just another episode of Washoe County GOP musical chairs?

No matter the strategy, it’s entertaining.

But let’s talk math. The Republican Central Committee reportedly has around $40,000 in the bank. That might buy 1/2 a slate card mailing, but it’s hardly a political war chest capable of carrying a citywide race on its back.

Which raises the bigger question: how much muscle does the committee actually have?

Because from where we’re sitting, Bruce Parks may roar loudly — but when it comes to election influence, the tiger looks a little… toothless.

Politics is funny that way. Loyalty for some. Flexibility for others.

And always a microphone waiting at the Atlantis.

And then this was announced yesterday … giggle, giggle, giggle. Reese will be asking his friends at the GSR for more contributions as they did for Judge Kathleen Sigurdson in 2020.
