Lights. Camera. Scrutiny Finally for Emily Skyle Golden

Our Town Reno’s article on the film festival and it’s executive director,

We enjoyed Our Town Reno’s article about the Cordillera International Film Festival and Executive Director Emily Skyle Golden, finally this chick is getting called out.

Our suggestion? Reach out to the nonprofit film organization that Skyle Golden previously worked with. There is a story there. The board of the Reno Tahoe International Film Festival - who Emily was working with prior to forming her own festival knows they had been duped.

From what we understand, the organization was working with Skyle Golden but was unaware of what she was doing behind the scenes — including relationships and connections they believed belonged to the organization that she ultimately took with her.

We actually considered doing a story on Skyle Golden and her fundraising tactics nearly two years ago. But she is a difficult person to pin down, and frankly, at the time we weren’t sure the story was worth the time and effort it would take to fully document.

Bless Our Town Reno’s heart — someone in the local media is finally asking questions.

The bigger question is whether the Cordillera story goes beyond the festival itself and looks at the history of how Skyle Golden built her network, cultivated relationships and raised money.

We believe there is much more to this story. And when you start pulling on the threads, what appears to be a very impressive operation may not be quite as solid as it looks.

Sometimes the best stories are hiding in plain sight. And isn’t Marcia Lu the sister of Second District Court Judge Cynthia Lu?
