Ed Lawson - Television Ads Meet Closed Fire Station
From Lawson’s campaign website … we ponder why it is so important to Mayor Lawson that people know he rides a motorcycle. Vanity?
Oh, we do enjoy Sparks Mayor Ed Lawson.
As he seeks reelection, he's spending a healthy amount of campaign contributions on television commercials reminding everyone how much he has done for the City of Sparks.
The ads tell viewers about the accomplishments. The ads tell viewers about the progress. The ads tell viewers about the leadership.
Then we happened to see a news story about a closed fire station in Sparks.
KOLO News 8 Facebook post about the closed fire station.
And that's where we became confused.
If everything is going so wonderfully, why is a fire station closed?
We're not saying Mayor Lawson is responsible for every problem facing the city. No mayor is. But when you're spending donor money on television ads celebrating your record, voters are entitled to look at the entire record.
The good. The bad. And the inconvenient.
Because campaign commercials only show the highlight reel. Residents have to live with the full season.
So after seeing the ads and then seeing the story about the fire station, we found ourselves asking a simple question:
Exactly how much has Ed done?
And perhaps more importantly, how much remains undone?
