Will the GOP Get Played Again? Kathleen Taylor's Mayoral 'Exploratory Campaign' Who’s Helping?

TaylorforReno Instagram announcement.

Reno City Councilmember Kathleen Taylor—fresh off her 2024 council win backed by local Republicans—has now launched an "exploratory campaign" to consider a run for mayor. Translation? She’s running, she just wants to see who’s gullible enough to hop on the bandwagon again.

Let’s rewind: Taylor courted Republicans and posed with the party base. But now, with her eyes set on the mayor’s office, we’re wondering if the Nevada GOP is about to be the ex who keeps coming back for more.

Even juicier? Will the chair of the local Republican Party support her exploratory campaign. That's right—either they're in on the hustle, or they’re the most optimistic party leadership since the Titanic crew declared the iceberg was "just a bump."

State of Nevada - Secretary of State Contribution and Expense Reports website. Taylor is ‘unspecified’ so why do the Republican support her.

To be clear, Taylor is a registered Republican. On paper. But paper can’t capture the political gymnastics of a candidate who wants GOP support, Democrat sympathy, and a nice neutral mayoral label. Sounds like Taylor wants it all—again.

The real question: will the Republican Party support her twice, just to watch her pivot faster than a weather vane in Washoe wind? But, hey, they could claim a Republican win for Reno Mayor and the party didn’t do so hot in local races in 2024. A win is a win.

Stay tuned, Reno. The campaign hasn’t started, but the spin cycle sure has.
