Someone—Anyone—Should Watch This Meeting

If you have an hour to spare, I encourage you to watch Item 10 from the July 2026 Northern Nevada Public Health Board of Health meeting.

Pay particular attention to how Reno Councilmember Devon Reese interacts with his fellow elected officials.

I came away wondering why Reese seems to believe his opinions should carry more weight simply because he's an attorney. Whether you're a lawyer, a commissioner, or a councilmember, every elected official at that table was chosen by the voters and deserves to be treated with respect.

Commissioner Clara Andriola and Councilmember Paul Anderson were elected by their constituents just as Devon Reese was elected by his. Their questions and concerns deserve thoughtful responses—not what we viewed as dismissive or condescending treatment by Reese.

In our opinion, Commissioner Andriola bore the brunt of it. She was asking questions on behalf of the public, yet Reese's responses came across as though her questions were merely slowing things down. He might not have used those words, but that was certainly the impression the room was left with.

Don't take our word for it.

Watch Item 10 yourself and decide whether this is the tone Reno residents should expect from one of their elected officials. Sometimes it's not what is said that tells the story—it's how it's said. Oh, and Devon you lost the mayoral race so get off the throne.
