Devon Reese for Mayor: Because Reno Just Isn’t Complicated Enough

Reese announced with a ‘crowded race’ give me a contribution text.

Well, folks, break out the campaign buttons — because yes, Devon Reese is officially running for Reno mayor. And if you feel like you’ve seen this movie before, you probably have. The script hasn’t changed much: big promises, bigger fundraising asks, and that ever-present question — who’s Reno really for? The residents… or Reese’s rolodex of developer friends?

And a river runs through it - a river of developer contributions for Reese.

Let’s rewind. This is the same Devon Reese tied up in case CV25-01334, where “dismissed” was denied, denied, denied. The same Reese who made headlines in March 2025 for a confrontation with a 72-year-old gentleman at Belleville Wine Bar — complete with a police report to memorialize the evening’s “spirited debate.” Nothing says “public servant” quite like squaring off with someone eligible for Social Security over a glass of cabernet. Oh and doing it with Mayor Hillary Schieve snapping photos.

Fast forward to today, and suddenly Reese is the self-declared champion of a “Reno that is safe, affordable, and full of opportunity.” Safe for whom? Affordable for whom? Full of opportunity… for whom? We’ll let you guess which crowd benefits most when the first official act of the campaign is not to share a vision, but to rattle the contribution tin.

So here’s the pitch: Reno’s residents get the slogans, while Reese’s developer friends get the real opportunities. And if the past is any guide, the only thing “affordable” in this story is the wine-by-the-glass at Belleville.
